Technologies, User Partnership Underline Zero Waste Month

Posted by:

In the spirit of continuous partnership to promote alternative technologies and practices for a healthier and safer environment, the Agricultural Training Institute joins the celebration of the Zero Waste Month.

As mandated by Presidential Proclamation No. 760, dated May 5, 2014, the month of January is celebrated as Zero Waste Month. Zero waste is defined as an advocacy that promotes the designing and managing of products and processes to avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials. It is also defined as a goal that is ethical, economical, efficient, and visionary to guide people in having a resourceful lifestyle, in which discarded materials can be re-designed as resources for others to use.

This year's celebration bears the theme "We and Alternative Technologies: Partnering for Proper Waste Management". It calls for the promotion and use of alternative technologies and techniques (such as waste-to-energy) that are not only economically sound but are also beneficial to the environment and human health.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau, together with the National Solid Waste Management Commission, oversees the month-long activities of the celebration pursuant to Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
