March 2022 Brings Juanas Center Stage

The Agricultural Training Institute is one with the nation in celebrating the gains achieved in gender equality and women’s empowerment this Women’s Month.

Culminating the six-year recurring theme “WE Make CHANGE Work for Women”, the 2022 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) will focus on Filipino women or Juanas exercising their choices, taking chances to make their voices heard, and benefitting from and trailblazing changes.

With the sub-theme “Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran”, NWMC 2022 will likewise center on women’s concerns in the government agenda. This includes enabling more women to implement as well as demand programs and services that can bring the country closer to narrowing the gender gaps and moving towards sustainable and equitable development.

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), lead agency for NWMC, has organized the following activities for the entire month of March:

  • Pulso para sa Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran Online Poll

This activity aims to set a roadmap for future leaders by getting Juanas’ and Juans’ pulse on priority issues that must be addressed in crafting programs, activities, and projects.

  • International Women’s Day (IWD) Celebration

On March 8, aside from launching the poll, a forum featuring the contribution of Juanas in climate change response and disaster risk reduction and mitigation will be conducted. This is in line with the IWD theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.

  • #JuanaSays: Agenda ni Juana edition

This activity will feature videos of Juanas from different walks of life sharing the key concerns they want to see in the government’s agenda.

  • Musika ng Kababaihan Fridays (#MNKFridays)

The PCW will stream songs from the MusikJuana Songwriting Contest 2021 to popularize the 12 areas of concern of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) and other PCW advocacy songs on women’s empowerment, integrated with information on gains and challenges relative to gender equality.

Several activities are also suggested for stakeholders to take part in this celebration such as displaying the banner campaign, wearing anything purple on all Tuesdays of March, producing and distributing information materials on gender-responsive programs and services, among others.

Through the years, the NWMC initiatives are anchored to inform and engage women as pioneers and beneficiaries of government programs and services; strengthen the implementation of the Magna Carta for Women; as well as inspire and empower women and girls to be agents of change.
