PASAY CITY, Metro Manila – In devising ways to bring extension services to more Filipinos, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) participated on the AgriLink/FoodLink/AquaLink 2017 at the World Trade Center.
More than 60 information, education and communication (IEC) titles and kits on agriculture and fisheries were distributed. These included materials on urban gardening, organic agriculture, crop production, lowland and highland vegetable production, pests and diseases, herbs and spices, as well as recipe guides. More than 120,000 copies of these were given out to a wide array of attendees which include farmers, fishers, agriculture practitioners and hobbyists, students, employees from public and private offices, etc.
Apart from bundles of IEC materials, products from selected ATI Learning Sites (LS) from Cordillera Administrative Region and CALABARZON were also featured in the exhibit to give the cooperators direct marketing opportunities. The participating LS are Cosmic Farm in La Trinidad, Benguet; MoCA Family Farm RLearning Center in Padre Garcia, Batangas; Beegood Agriventures Farm School in Tiaong, Quezon; Luntiang Republika Ecofarms in Alfonso, Cavite; and Vilela’s Farm in Ibaan, Batangas.
Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte graced the formal program for the opening of the exhibit. He lauded the organizers of the three-day event, led by the Foundation for Resource Linkage & Development. He also ensured that “the government is accelerating its own efforts in empowering our farmers and fisherfolk through various programs.” He cited initiatives such as the distribution of climate-resilient seed varieties, loans and insurances, as well as introduction of better production and post-harvest technologies.
An agribusiness exhibition, the AgriLink/FoodLink/AquaLink 2017 showcases the latest innovations and products for improved production and processing. With this year’s theme that centers on “Improved Varieties and Postharvest Facilities: Essential to Profitability”, the activity rolled out on October 5-7, 2017.
