Heart Month Calls for Heart Disease Awareness, Prevention

According to the Department of Health, heart diseases such as rheumatic fever, hypertension, and the buildup of fats, cholesterol, and other substances in and on the artery wall are among the leading causes of death in the Philippines.

In this regard, the government, through Proclamation No. 1096, series 1973, declared February of every year as the Philippine Heart Month to raise awareness on how urgent it is to attend to the growing prevalence of heart disease cases in the country.

As the entire nation celebrates this occasion, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) joins the movement to promote caring for our heart emotionally, mentally, and physically. Through the Institute’s urban and organic agriculture programs, the ATI intends to build healthy communities by promoting agriculture as a lifestyle that helps one’s body fight diseases, boosts one’s mood, as well as foster feelings of connection and empowerment.

Heeding the call for a whole-of-nation approach, all government agencies and private organizations are encouraged to take part and render assistance to carry out awareness programs and activities for a healthier citizenry.
