Project PEARLS, DA, ATI Partner for COVID-19 Hunger Relief Program

QUEZON CITY, Philippines – To sustain the goal of supporting children and families whose lives and livelihoods have been sternly affected by the pandemic, Project PEARLS has partnered with the Department of Agriculture through the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in the implementation of the COVID-19 Hunger Relief Program in selected communities in Bulacan, Cavite, and Manila.

The partnership was sealed by a Memorandum of Agreement signed last September 17, 2020. It also included another three private groups who seek to promote food security in their respective communities. The ceremony was led by Agriculture Secretary William Dar who underscored the urban agriculture program as a progressive initiative that greatly helps the disadvantaged against the threats of COVID-19 in the food systems and supply.

Monica Aclan, Project PEARLS Operations and Programs Director, shared that they are constantly growing their network of sponsors and partners to raise resources for their COVID-19 Hunger Relief Program. Thus, the newly established partnership with the Department will bring hope among the beneficiaries by cultivating their own food crops, and fostering a skill in home gardening.

Following the MOA signing, ATI has distributed 600 starter kits composed of assorted vegetable seeds, garden soil, and compost to the organization last September 28, 2020 at the Institute’s Central Office. They also gave away information and reading materials on urban gardening to aid the intended households in starting their own garden.

Project PEARLS is a non-government organization that helps poor children have a better life through education, empowerment, nutrition, and healthcare services.
