Recognizing the role of urban agriculture as one of the practical, effective measures to address stable food supply amid the threat Covid-19, the Department of Agriculture (DA), through the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP) on 6 May 2020 in Diliman, Quezon City.

“We are happy that BSP, one of the largest scout organizations in the world, has responded to our call in massively promoting urban agriculture program,” said Agriculture Secretary William Dar.

During the MOA signing, National President Roberto Pagdanganan expressed his support to the DA’s Plant, Plant, Plant Program through the wide implementation of urban agriculture in the country.

“BSP, a value-based and service-oriented organization, will designate areas to establish the vegetable gardens and promote urban agriculture in the communities and distribute the seeds to 123 councils nationwide. We will also mobilize our now three million members to promote household crop/food production using various technologies and gardening methods,” said Pagdanganan who was joined by BSP Secretary-General Rogelio Villa, Jr. and other BSP officials.

Also present during the MOA signing were BPI Director George Culaste and BPI Assistant Director Glenn Panganiban who turned over 1,400 seed packs to BSP. ###
