This November, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) joins the national effort to further promote, propagate, develop, and implement the practice of organic agriculture as part of the celebration of the 7th National Organic Agriculture Month.
Organic agriculture is seen as an effective tool for development, environmental conservation, and health protection of farmers and consumers. Over the years, it has played an important part in enhancing the global competitiveness of the farming sector, as well as environmental integrity, in the country—towards better food security and safety and alleviation of poverty.
This year’s celebration will bear the theme "Organikong Pagsasaka, Sagot sa Pandemya", which aims to address the needs of people in accessing healthy and safe and food especially during this pandemic. This will be a month-long celebration, packed with activities that will showcase different practices, technologies, and products from various organic agriculture stakeholders all over the country.
To increase awareness on the production and consumption of healthy and safe food, a series of physical and virtual activities will be conducted by different agencies. These include webinars, contests, exhibits, and trade fair.
These festivities will officially open on November 5 in a ceremony to be led by the Department of Agriculture (DA). Senator Cynthia Villar and DA Secretary William Dar are expected to grace the event which will be streamed live via the National Organic Agriculture Program Facebook page.
For its part, the ATI network of training centers lined up online training activities and seminars on different topics such as the Participatory Guarantee System, animal waste management, health and well, and many others. The celebration of the National Organic Agriculture Month is in line with Proclamation No. 1030, series of 2015.
