QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), as the lead government inter-agency body for children’s rights and welfare in the Philippines, spearheaded the 2020 National Children’s Month Celebration last November 6, 2020. It was conducted via video teleconferencing platform, with the theme: “Sama-samang itaguyod ang Karapatan ng Bawat Bata sa Panahon ng Pandemya”. The activity aims to celebrate and recognize children as the most valuable assets of the nation, and to emphasize the importance of their role within the Filipino family and the Philippine society.
Part of the celebration is a webinar on Survival Gardening which aims to educate parents, caregivers, and other members of the community on how to start gardening in their homes and communities, and to discuss its benefits during the pandemic. Likewise, it aims to establish an appreciation for gardening among the children, and create a bonding experience for the whole family.
Ms. Nemielynn P. Pangilinan, Senior Agriculturist of the Agricultural Training Institute’s Partnership and Accreditation Division, served as the resource person for the topic on the Plant Plant Plant Program, in which Urban Agriculture is one of its components. Other invited resource persons were from the National Nutrition Council, Bureau of Plant Industry, and University of the Philippines.
