The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) supports the observance of Soil Conservation Month this June.
With the theme “Conserving Soil Together: A key to land restoration and recovery”, it underlines the cumulative efforts of Filipinos and its greater relevance in the attainment of soil conservation against all odds.
Created through Department Order No. 2 series of 1997 and Administrative Order No. 16 series of 2007, the celebration also promotes the importance of soil and water conservation management in attaining food security for the country.
Through its training and advisory services, the ATI continuously promotes sustainable farming practices to increase biodiversity and soil health in agriculture areas. These include training programs on organic agriculture which aim to encourage the adoption of environment-friendly methods in food production.
Moreover, soil conservation is promoted at the household level through urban farming. Under the “Plant, Plant, Plant” Program, the ATI supports the establishment of urban community gardens in selected areas in Metro Manila.
