DILIMAN, Quezon City – Adhering to the call of the Agriculture Secretary William Dar to engage the youth in the agriculture sector, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) crafted the Educational Assistance for the Youth: Degree Courses in Agriculture, and Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (EAsY Agri). This is a scholarship program intended to support children of small-scale farmers and fishers in the country. It aims to encourage capable and deserving youth to pursue studies and professional career in agriculture, fisheries, agricultural engineering, and other related fields, or venture in agri-entrepreneurship.
Under this program, a total of 223 Filipino youth will be awarded with scholarship grants. Of which, 160 will be able to enroll in agriculture- or fisheries-related courses and 63 will take-up a course on agricultural engineering. Eligible beneficiaries of the program include sons and daughters of farmers/fisherfolk whose annual gross family income do not exceed Php100,000, and are 30 years old and below during the time of scholarship application. All recipients will be incoming freshman students in a State University or College in the country.
Scholars are entitled to benefits and privileges that include payment for tuition fees, monthly stipend and allowance amounting to Php6,000, and book allowance of Php1,500 every semester. In addition, they will also receive Php 10,000 research allowance and graduation fees payment.
As early as March 2020, ATI’s Regional Training Centers (RTCs) conducted simultaneous regional recruitment and screening of applicants. Each RTC is given 14 scholarship slots to fill-in. With the exception of ATI-RTC in Zamboanga Peninsula and SOCCSKSARGEN with 20 and 21 slots, respectively, to fill-in slots allocated for ARMM.
Shortlisted applicants are endorsed by the various ATI-RTCs to ATI Central Office for approval. Once the official list of scholars is released, a scholarship service contract will be executed between ATI and the scholar.
The Program will start on the first semester of school year 2020-2021 and will end in 2025.
