The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) kicks off the National Coconut Month celebration on August 5, 2020 via Facebook Live. Bearing the theme, “Masaganang Niyugan Tungo sa Kaginhawaan”, the event pushes for nationwide and global promotion of the benefits of the coconut and the coconut industry.
Following the protocols under the new normal, various activities are set to be launched physically and virtually by the PCA. These include:
"CocoPapremyo", a recognition day for coconut farmers highlighting their best practices and innovative ideas;
“CocoMersyo”, a coconut trading and marketing platform through Coco Bazaar Plus KADIWA ni Ani at Kita at the PCA Grounds. There will also be an online marketing of coconut products with PCA-managed coconut showroom as the drop-off and pick-up center.
“CocoSina”, a series of live online cooking sessions/demonstrations using various coconut-based recipes/dishes. This activity will explore a wide range of choices from new millennial finds to traditional/heritage, as well as ethnic foods.
“CocoSkwela”, an e-Learning series which will cover stakeholder-endorsed topics such as urban agriculture, benefits and advantages of coconut products, and trade and market requirements, among others. In addition, the PCA will also launch the "CocoNews", a school-on-the-air-inspired radio program for the coconut industry stakeholders.
"CocoKwentuhan", a webinar which will underscore the industry outlook, supply chain challenges and opportunities, and other prospects for growth and development in the coconut industry.
The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), for its part, continues to support local coconut farmers to capacitate other farmers through technology demonstration and training activities. At present, there are a number of ATI-assisted learning sites that showcase coconut production and processing technologies in different parts of the country.
