July is National Nutrition Month

The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), together with the National Nutrition Council, joins the nation in observing the National Nutrition Month this July.

This year’s observance bears the theme “Kumain nang wasto at maging aktibo… push natin ‘to!” (Eat healthy and do physical activity… let’s push this!). It aims to promote the consumption of healthy diets, increased physical activity, and reduced sedentary behavior; encourage the food industry including farmers, manufacturers, distributors, and food establishments to produce and make available healthier food options; and advocate for the enactment of national and local policies supportive of an enabling environment for healthy diets and physical activity.

As part of its mandate, ATI helps ensure the availability of safe and healthy farm products through the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices and technologies. ATI offers training programs on different commodities including high-value crops, Good Agricultural Practices, organic and urban agriculture, livestock, and social technologies.

The annual observance is in line with Presidential Decree 491 in 1974, or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines, declaring July as Nutrition Month to create awareness on the importance of nutrition among Filipinos.
