QUEZON CITY, Metro Manila—As the lead agency in capacitating agriculture and fisheries stakeholders in the country, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) ensures continuous capability-enhancement of its human resources for improved delivery of extension services.
A total of 25 technical and administrative staff from the agency’s central office and nationwide network of training centers, most of whom are newly hired, took part in a training course on training management skills. This is to capacitate them to effectively organize and conduct training programs and other related activities.
Theresa Aurora Cosico, chief of the Training and Curriculum Development Section at the ATI’s Career Development and Management Division (CDMD), discussed what a training, the adult learner, and adult learning are; the roles and responsibilities of a trainer; and how to develop training objectives.
In an exercise as part of the module, the participants worked in pairs to craft general and terminal objectives on Gender and Development; Leadership and Management; Vegetable Production; Urban Gardening; Organic Agriculture; and Financial Literacy. Likewise, they were divided into groups and tasked to prepare and present a training design for any of the six topics.
Meanwhile, Rae Bernadette Ianna Lapitan, Development Management Officer II from ATI-CDMD, gave a lecture on the basics of training evaluation and pre-, during, and post-training tasks. She also led the group sessions on developing and facilitating energizers and recapitulation activities and presentation of 10-minute role-playing skits on how to deal with different participant behaviors.
“This training is impactful. We are now more equipped to deal with different types of participants to achieve quality training. I will definitely relay this to my co-workers,” Nepthali Madarimot, Training Specialist II from ATI Caraga, said.
The activity was held last April 22-26 in this city. The said training course is also offered online, for free, through www.e-extension.gov.ph/elearning.
