Agri Sector to Honor Rice Industry Achievers

PASAY CITY, Metro Manila— The Department of Agriculture (DA), in cooperation with the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), will bring together top achievers in the rice industry for the 2018 Rice Achievers Awards (RAA) on May 30, 2019 in the Philippine International Convention Center.

Seven provinces, 15 municipalities/cities, eight Irrigators’ Associations (IAs), and six Small Water Irrigation Systems Associations (SWISA) are set to receive their awards including Php54 million worth of prizes during the ceremony.

Around 500 agricultural extension workers (AEWs) and local farmer technicians (LFTs) will also be given merit and recognition for their outstanding contributions in rice farming in separate ceremonies within their respective regions. Thirteen provinces, 10 IAs, and seven SWISAs will, likewise, receive special prizes from the Awards.

Established in 2012, the RAA aims to celebrate innovations and technologies in the rice industry as key in attaining food security and sustainability in the country.

Senator Cynthia Villar, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, and Congressman Jose Panganiban, Jr., chairperson of the House of Committee on Agriculture and Food, will grace this year’s awarding ceremonies. Key officials of the Department are also expected to be present in the prestigious gathering.
