Participants apply the principles in effective writing in drafting business correspondences as part of the exercises.
DILIMAN, Quezon City – “Communication is a basic life skill that we must continuously learn and improve. Great communicators are great influencers,” expressed Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) OIC, Director Luz Taposok during the training on communication skills.
She said this to further urge the training participants from ATI’s Regional Training Centers (RTCs) and the Central Office to become effective communicators. Director Taposok added, “The more people that communicators influence to engage in agriculture and contribute to nation-building, the closer the country is to achieving sustainable development.”
Recognizing communication as the backbone of the society, Dir. Taposok underscored its importance in the success of any organization. Likewise, it is key to enabling the Institute to better promote its programs and services to the public and encourage more partnerships.
Taking on this challenge, the participants of the first of two training activities entitled “Back to Basics: A Training on Communication Skills” actively contributed in the workshops and exercises. With Information Services Division (ATI-ISD) Chief Antonieta Arceo as the resource person, the training focused on writing business correspondences and presentation skills.
The activity was also an opportunity to standardize communications and other print materials produced by the Institute through the discussion of the ATI’s Corporate Identity Manual led by ATI-ISD Media Production Specialist Karl Salibio.
A total of 29 staff, mostly newly hired, from the ATI Central Office and RTCs in II, VI, XII, XIII, Cordillera Administrative Region, and MiMaRoPa were part of the activity. Particularly, they are administrative officers/assistants, dormitory managers, agriculturists, development management officers, media production specialists, project evaluation officers, planning officers, network controller, and computer maintenance technologist.
The training was held at the ATI Enterprise Laboratory in this city on April 24-27, 2017. Meanwhile, the second training on communication skills will be held in July.
