MARCELO GREEN, Parañaque City – Residents of Marcelo Green Village are now ready to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle through urban agriculture technologies.

This is after an ATIng Gulayan ng Department of Agriculture (DA) Street Caravan was held in the village to provide information on the benefits and viability of urban farming.

Through the activity, the residents learned about soilless growing medium preparation, seed sowing, watering, and organic fertilizer preparation.

Romermart Aubigne Peñamora, an agriculturist from the Agricultural Training Institute’s (ATI) Partnerships and Accreditation Division, served as their resource person. He emphasized that urban farming is easily doable and a cost-effective solution for food insufficiency.

One resident, Larcy Ardeña, commented that the caravan helped her gain new knowledge on urban agriculture, particularly on seed sowing and preparation of organic fertilizer.

Lorena Alcororao, shared that the technologies taught during the activity could open new doors on her farming endeavor. She explained, “This (street caravan) gave me additional information on farming technologies that I can apply in my own garden.”

As it continues its series of street caravans, the ATIng Gulayan ng DA is expected to empower more communities to grow their own food and establish their own urban farms.

Held last April 5, the activity was led by the ATI at Marcelo Green Gymnasium in this city.
