BABay ASF: Capacitating the Barangay Biosecurity Officers

Lecture proper during the Training on Specimen Collection for Barangay Biosecurity Officers (BBOs) in Quezon province.

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite - The Agricultural Training Institute in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office IV-A and the Provincial Veterinary Offices of Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Quezon conducted the seven (7) batches of “Training on Specimen Collection for Barangay Biosecurity Officers (BBOs)”. The activity is the third installment of the series of training under Bantay African Swine Fever (ASF) sa Barangay or BABay ASF”, a flagship program under the DA National Livestock Program.

A total of 120 Local Government Unit (LGU) identified and endorsed BBOs were capacitated on the proper sample collection, packaging and transport of samples for the testing of ASF virus. Resource speakers from the Provincial Veterinary Offices discussed the roles and responsibilities of BBOs, reporting protocols and necessary forms in reporting of ASF cases.

The BBOs will be assisting the Provincial Veterinary Offices and the Municipal Agriculture Offices of the local government in the implementation of barangay level surveillance and environmental sampling for ASF.
