ATI Leads Training of Trainers on Fall Armyworm Management

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite - The Agricultural Training Institute Central Office conducted a five-day Training of Trainers on Fall Armyworm (FAW) Management on May 31 – June 4, 2021. Two participants from Department of Agriculture (DA)-Agricultural Training Institute, three (3) from DA-Regional Crop Protection Center and two (2) from DA-Regional Field Office IV-A participated in the said training.

During the five-day stretch of the training, the participants learned different topics of Fall Armyworm from its status, history, life cycle, management protocols, different approaches, controls, monitoring and field surveillance.

Through the field practicum, improvised pheromone traps were prepared and installed. RCPC together with the Local Government will then continue with the weekly monitoring of the fields to lessen infestation. This will help gather more data and calculate the damage percentage of FAW infestation, egg mass and larva incidence. Different strategies and recommendations will be given to avoid outbreak.

Participants also presented their outputs and developed regional action plan for 2021 – 2023 to be submitted to the national office.
