Laguna Province Continues to Practice and Promote Organic Agriculture

Ms. Marites Piamonte-Cosico led the distribution of starter kits during the Organic Mobile Tiangge in Kalayaan, Laguna on January 21, 2021.

LAGUNA province - To enhance the knowledge and skills on Organic Agriculture (OA), the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) conducted two (2) activities in Laguna province, Seminar on Organic Agriculture for the Youth in Nagcarlan and Organic Mobile Tiangge in Kalayaan.

The Seminar on Organic Agriculture for the Youth was participated by 30 youth from various barangays in Nagcarlan. Municipal Mayor Lourdes Arcasetas, Municipal Agriculturist Angelina Salamat and ATI CALABARZON Center Director Marites Piamonte – Cosico graced the activity. On her closing message, Center Director Cosico challenged the youth to have the passion in agriculture. After the training, the participants received starter kits composed of vermicast, carbonized rice hull, haras, molasses, bokashi, water sprinkler and vegetable seeds. “Dito (sa seminar na ito) ko nayakap yung food sustainability at organic farming. Napakahalaga ng sektor ng Agrikultura sa ating bayan. Ito ay isang napakalaking ambag sa isang hanay na kung saan ay aming babaunin sa kanya-kanyang bahay at pamayanan. Itong seminar na ito ay hindi lamang nagbigay ng kaalaman bagkus ay nagbigay ng kasanayan sa ating mga kabataan. Hindi lamang natapos sa talakayan. May ipapamigay pa na starter kits. Mayroong application yung ating mga natutunan,” as shared by one of the youth-participants. Ms. Janiel Gesmundo served as the resource person. The one-day activity was held in Gintong Bukid Farm and Leisure, a certified Learning Site for Agriculture in Nagcarlan.

On the other hand, 30 individuals from various barangays of Kalayaan participated in the Organic Mobile Tiangge. Municipal Mayor Sandy Laganapan extended his gratitude to ATI CALABARZON for this activity. Participants were provided with lectures, showcase of organically grown vegetables in the locality and starter kits including assorted vegetable seeds, seedling tray, molasses, vermicast, carbonized rice hull, haras and water sprinkler. Mr. Ralphy Lazaro served as the resource person. The activity was in collaboration with the Municipal Agriculture Office of Kalayaan.

Seminar on Organic Agriculture for the Youth and Organic Mobile Tiangge happened on January 19 and 21, 2021, respectively.
