GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite- Fifteen (15) children from Bukid Kabataan Center in General Trias City, Cavite participated in a two-day training on urban gardening dubbed as “AgriBulilit: Urban Gardening Activities for Children.”
Topics such as soil media preparation, seedling preparation, sowing, and transplanting were discussed by Ms. Ivy Rose D. Faigane, an Agricultural Extension Worker (AEW) from Municipal Agriculture Office of Magallanes, Cavite.
ATI IV-A resident Agriculturist, Mr. Hans Christopher Flores discussed the overview of urban agriculture, including factors affecting the growth of plants such as sunlight and water, as important inputs to have a healthy vegetable plant. He also emphasized the benefits of urban gardens as source of food amidst the pandemic.
Moreover, the children were able to create a painted clay pot as one of the highlights of the activity.
“Natutunan ko po ang magpunla, mag lipat-tanim, gumamit ng iba’t-ibang kagamitan sa pagtatanim, paggamit ng bote sa pagtatanim, mga uri ng pagtatanim, composting, pot painting, paggamit ng kombinasyon ng mga kulay at ang mga paraan ng pagtatanim at pag pot painting,” shared one of the participants.
The training was held last November 14-15, 2020.
