PADRE GARCIA, Batangas – Now on its third batch, the Agricultural Training Institute – CALABARZON continues to teach students, teachers and parents the benefits and opportunities on urban agriculture.

Twenty (20) teachers, parents of students and 4H members of Quilo-quilo Elementary School completed the “Seminar on Urban Agriculture for 4H/RBO” last October 16, 2020. The program generally aims to provide the participants with a better understanding on urban agriculture technologies and establishment of community gardens in the selected RBO communal gardens in CALABARZON.

Topics on urban agriculture technologies were discussed through video presentations and virtual open discussion by the resource speaker from one of ATI 4A’s Extension Service Provider Mr. Brian A. Belen. Hands-on activity was also demonstrated by the ATI’s YFFLTPJ student Mr. Godfrey Alvarez.

During the closing program, teacher and “Gulayan sa Paaralan” Coordinator, Mr. Marwin M. De Torres shared his gratefulness for becoming part of the activity.

“Isang masaya at pambihirang pagkakataon ang aming nararamdaman. Ang ganitong uri ng pagsasanay sa gitna na suliraning kinahaharap ng bansa ay isang bagong pag asa para sa lahat. Gaya nga ng kasabihang "We will, because we can." Basta't tayo'y sama sama at nagkakaisa. Walang epidemyang makakapagpabagsak sa atin. Agrikultura ay isa sa susi at pag asa. Pagyamanin, palaguin at paunlarin at sigurado akong bukas ay susulong,” he said.

By the end of the seminar, participants received urban agriculture starter kits for the establishment of their RBO-based community garden to practice and showcase urban agriculture technologies.
