ROSARIO, Batangas- Fifteen (15) personnel and residents of Regional Haven for Women and Girls of the Department of Social and Welfare Development Region IV-A were trained on container gardening. The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) - CALABARZON in partnership with the Municipal Agriculture Office of Rosario, Batangas spearhead the one-day seminar on urban gardening under the Gender and Development (GAD) program of the regional training center.
The program aims to empower the residents by enhancing their skills and knowledge on urban gardening. It also aims to promote gardening as part of their recreation to help the residents minimize stress.
In her message, Center Director Ms. Marites Piamonte-Cosico encouraged the participants to start gardening especially during the pandemic.
“Bilang isang ahensyang may matatag pong paniniwala sa lakas at galing ng mga kababaihan, ang ATI CALABARZON rin ay patuloy na magbibigay ng mga programang pang agrikultura para sa mga kababaihan at ganon rin sa mga kabataan. Kasabay nito, kami ay mananatiling katuwang ng Department of Social Welfare and Development sa pagpapalaganap ng mga impormasyon patungkol sa Anti-Violence Against Women & their Children,” she also added.
Experts from Municipal Agriculture Office of Rosario served as resource speakers who shared their knowledge on container gardening, soil media preparation, seedling preparation, transplanting, and proper care for the crops from seedling to post harvest.
The participants and the Center received agricultural inputs such as seeds, soil media, seedling trays, and garden tools as starter kits for their urban garden.
The training was held at the Regional Haven for Women and Girls last October 9, 2020 in this municipality.
