ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal – In response to food security and sufficiency, 15 individuals from Barangay San Roque in Antipolo City, Rizal completed the first batch of Seminar on Urban Gardening on July 29, 2020. City Agriculturist Ms. Mamalyns Dion with Mr. Rey Mendoza and Mr. Junel Igharas served as resource persons on basic urban gardening. Topics highlighted the Integrated Pest Management and production of natural fertilizer concoctions such as Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ) and Fish Amino Acid (FAA). At the end of the activity, each participant received starter kits as support in establishing their own urban garden.
Brgy. Chairman Leandro Cabasbas graced the opening ceremony and awarding of certificates to the graduates. During his message, Brgy. Chairman Cabasbas extends his appreciation to the City Agriculture Office and ATI Calabarzon in conducting the seminar in their barangay to encourage their residents in producing their own vegetables in their garden as means to address food availability during the pandemic.
ATI Calabarzon expresses gratitude to the participants, resource persons, the Sangguniang Barangay of San Roque and the Local Government of Antipolo City through the City Agriculture Office for their active cooperation in promoting and applying Urban Agriculture in their locality. Second batch of Seminar on Urban Gardening is scheduled this August in Antipolo City, Rizal.
