AEWs trained on assessing organic farms in the region

SAN JUAN, Batangas – In its continued effort toenhance the knowledge and skills of AEWs on organic certification, the Agricultural Training InstituteRegion IV-A conducted the “Training on Organic Production and Certification at Don Leon Nature Farm in this municipality.

Specifically, the training aims to explain organic agriculture as a sustainable agricultural production system, discuss organic seed production and pest management in organic farming system. In addition, it envisions to expound basic requirements on organic certification, impart familiarity on the participants about traceability and recordkeeping and equip them to perform pre-assessment in an organic farm.

The lectures were carried out by Mr. AnaldoGonzales from DA RFO IV-A, Ms. Eugenia Buctuanon and Mr. Benito Sojor of Bureau of Plant Industry- Los Baños, andMs.Melanie Cortez from the Municipal Agriculture Office ofSto. Tomas,Batangas

The highlight of the training was the pre-assessment, wherein the AEWs inspected an organic farm using the prescribed forms, and presented the results for critiquing and recommendation. A total of 27 AEWs from CALABARZON took part in the training.

It was held on May 22-24,2019, facilitated by Project Officer and Regional OA Focal Person, Ms. Soledad Leal from the Partnerships and Accreditation Service Section.
