TRECE MARTIRES CITY, CAVITE - Twenty-nine Rice Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) of Cavite, Batangas, Rizal and Laguna participated in the “Capability Enhancement Course for Rice AEWs Batch 1.”
The training course aims to help AEWs acquire necessary mind-set and skills to apply System of Rice Intensification (SRI) successfully in growing rice, acquaint them with knowledge with updates on rice technology and extension delivery modalities. It was spearheaded by Partnership and Accreditation Services Section (PASS) of ATI IV-A.
During the five-day refresher course, various topics on rice technology and DA rice program updates were presented. Topics were composed of Philippine and Regional Rice Industry Situation, Rice Tarriffication, Updates on Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) and Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC) Program, Participants were also provided the necessary knowledge on System of Rice Intensification, ICT based tools updates, the Training Cycle and Critical Tasks and extension delivery modalities.
Raymond Perido, a newly-appointed Agricultural Extension Worker from Naic, Cavite shared how the training would help him get started with his job.
"Malaking tulong ang mga android phone apps tulad ng RCM, AgRiDOC, e-palayan at iba pa para mapadali ang pagkuha ng impormasyon ng mga magsasaka, lalo na ang RCM at pagkakaroon ng gabay sa pag-aabono ng mga magsasaka," he said.
Perido added, "Nagkaroon din kami ng kaalaman sa Rice Tariffication law at mas na-encourage din po kami ang SRI kung saan ang pagtatanim ng palay ay nagpapataas ng ani mula sa konting tubig at walang kemikal na ginagamit.”
This four-day training was held at ATI RTC IVA Training Hall, Brgy. Lapidario, Trece Martires City, Cavite last May 6 to 10, 2019.
