"BILIB basta NATIVE" Profitable Guide to Basic Native Pig Production

Participants were grouped for hands-on experience in making feed formulation for native pigs.

SILANG, Cavite - Being true to one of its thrusts, to promote and conserve the Philippine native breeds, the Agricultural Training Institute- Region IV-A in partnership with one of its Learning Sites, Teofely Nature Farms conducted the training “Profitable Guide to Native Pig Production” last February 8- 10, 2019 at Teofely’s Nature Farm, Silang Cavite. The activity aims to raise awareness on the potential viability of native swine as an agricultural enterprise.

The twenty seven (27) participants from the five provinces of CALABARZON were given inputs on how to raise native pigs using lower cost of inputs. They also had the chance to formulate fermented juices and natural feed mix that serve as feed source for native pigs. The highlight of the training was the hands-on proper on how to make the perfect lechon and other processed products using native pork.

ATI RTC IV-A and some organizations including the Philippine Native Pig Owners Network Association (PNPONAI) has been focusing efforts on bringing the native pig industry back to the Philippine market through free seminars and training opportunities for swine raisers and enthusiasts.
