SILANG, Cavite - The Agricultural Training Institute Region IV-A in collaboration with the International Institute for Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) conducted the 1st Regional Conference on Climate Change for Agriculture and Fisheries last November 28 - 29, 2018.
Geared towards community-resilience building with the theme, "Transforming Climate Risks to Agriculture and Fishery Opportunities in CaLaBaRZon: An Extension Strategy towards Regional Climate Change Resiliency," the conference aimed to highlight the important role of local extension services in the climate change adaptation and mitigation for agriculture and fisheries.
Nearly 200 partners in extension in the region composed of LGUs, SUCs and private sectors attended the conference. The activities showcased several adaptation and mitigation strategies using plenary and breakout sessions. The topics during simultaneous breakout sessions were: 1) IIRR: Social Learning Process to Facilitate Community Adaptaions; 2) IIRR: Leveraging the Nutrition Contributions to Agriculture; 3) The Role of Small Holder Farms in Climate Change adaptation; and 4) Adaptation planning process for Agricultural sector.
Several exhibitors including PhilRice-Los Baños, DELFA'S, CAFFMACO, Gentri Dairy Milk, Café Amadeo, IIRR and district schools in Depatment of Education (DepEd) Imus also showcased their products and services for the attendees.
