LUCBAN, Quezon – For three (3) consecutive years, Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) – Lucban bagged the title as 3rd Kabataang Organic Agriculture (OA) college category. Since 2016, Kabataang OA is an annual quiz bee competition opened for tertiary students taking up agriculture and agriculture-related courses.
A total of 68 college students from Cavite State University (CvSU), Laguna State Polytechnic University – Siniloan, University of the Philippines – Los Baños, Batangas State University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Mulanay, Philippine Normal University – Lopez and SLSU eyed for the championship. “Sa inyong mga kabataan na kasali sa patimpalak na ito, hindi pagkapanalo ang mahalaga kundi kung paano ka lumaban at muling tumayo para panindigan ang inyong sarili,” reminds Ms. Marites P. Cosico, Center Director of Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) CaLaBaRZon. The quiz bee was divided into three (3) rounds – elimination, semi-final and final round. In the elimination round, only 40 students with the highest scores moved to the semi-final round. The remaining 40 students competed for the deserving 10 slots in the semi-final round. Only top 5 contestants proceed in the final round. Each finalist demonstrated procedures in preparing Oriental Herbal Nutrient for 10 minutes. SLSU retained as the Kabataang OA. Mr. Philip M. Reyes, OA Expert, Ms. Frene C. Dela Cruz, Alternate Focal Person for OA of Office of the Provincial Agriculturist – Laguna and Ms. Lucia A. Campomanes served as the panel of judges.
