GENERAL NAKAR, Quezon- To help increase the farm productivity and profitability in small–scale rice farms, the Agricultural Training Institute Region IV-A and Municipality of Gen. Nakar, Quezon through the Municipal Agriculture Office signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on September 5, 2018.
This signing marked the commitment of both parties to the implementation of Palayamanan Plus Project at Sitio Lupa, Brgy. Magsikap General Nakar, Quezon. The said program was an offshoot of the baseline activity conducted last July 30-31, 2018.
Palayamanan Plus is a rice-based farming system that employs crop diversification and crop-animal integration. This system helps farming families in diversifying their crops, and in starting other sources of income such as fishpond, poultry, and livestock.
These assure the family of a good source of protein and energy since livestock wastes are used as organic fertilizer, and rice straws as vegetable bed mulch and food supplement. The project aimed to promote diversification, intensification and integration of different farming components to gain more income, enhance value-adding, and move towards marketing.
The MOU signing was graced by ATI IV-A Center Director Ms. Marites Piamonte-Cosico and Partnership and Accreditation Services Section Chief Ms. Sherylou C. Alfaro, Municipal Agriculturist Mr. John Leo O. Tena, and Brgy. Chairman of Brgy. Magsikap Cap. Gerry R. Ritual.
