CANDELARIA, Quezon- In 2014, 1.5 million tons of honeys were produced worldwide. Knowing the industry’s market demand, beekeeping is a viable livelihood (FAOSTAT).

Dedicated to its commitment in empowering Rural-Based Organizations in the country, the Agricultural Training Institute Region (ATI) IV-A led a three-day capability training for Pambansang Mannalon Mag-uuma Magbabaul Magsasaska ng Pilipinas (P4MP) entitled Training on Stingless Bee Production.

ATI IV-A Training Specialist, Ms. Lizbeth L. David shares that the P4MP is one of the Rural-based Organizations (RBOs) being supported by the ATI. One of the organizations’ necessities is technical knowledge on possible livelihood projects that they can engage in, and a viable example is stingless bee production.

The training encompasses both theoretical and practical aspects. The training enhanced the skills of the participants in stingless bee production which will eventually provide them with additional livelihood projects for their families.

“At the end of the training, the participants can define and identify honeybee biology and its behavior and honeybee major pests and diseases and its control measures. They were equipped on the proper bee hive management,” added by Ms. David.

A total of 23 participants attended the said training, held at Uma Verde Ecofarm in Candelaria, Quezon last June 19-21, 2018. It was spearheaded by Career Development and Management Section of ATI IV-A.
