OPA Quezon and LGUs of Bondoc Peninsula Supports SOA on High Value Crops

CATANAUAN, Quezon – “Kami po from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist ay talagang buong lugod na ipapahayag namin yung ganitong proyekto para sa kapakinabangan ng ating magsasaka. Nawa ito ay maging bahagi ng inyong pag-unlad,” addressed by Ms. Ma. Leonellie G. Dimalaluan, Provincial High Value Crops (HVC) Focal Person of Quezon, expressing full support for the program. “Huwag tayong maging maramot. Hikayatin natin huwag lang ang ating mga sarili kundi pati yung ating mga kasamang farmers sa mga ganitong pagkakataon,” Mr. Joemar B. Salagubang, Municipal Agriculturist of Agdangan, Quezon, added. The School on the Air (SOA) on High Value Crops (HVC) entitled “Unlad Saka: Isang Radyo Eskwela Para sa Bondoc Peninsula” was launched on June 19, 2018 in this municipality.

Municipal Agriculturists, Agricultural Technologists/Technicians and farmer representatives across municipalities of Bondoc Peninsula (BonPen) in Quezon province graced the launching of SOA on HVC as indication of support for the program. Dr. Rolando V. Maningas, Information Services Section Chief of ATI CaLaBaRZon provided overview and mechanics of SOA including topics and schedule of airings. Afterwards, open forum followed to address inquiries of participants which were immediately responded.

“Unlad Saka: Isang Radyo Eskwela Para sa Bondoc Peninsula” will be aired at Radyo Natin BonPen 102.5 FM, every Friday, 12:00 noon to 1:00 in the afternoon, starting July 13, 2018 until October 12, 2018. This year SOA on HVC focused mainly on four commodities – cacao, ubi, banana and calamansi. Highlight of the topics include site and varietal selection, planting, pest management, harvesting, storage, record keeping, value adding, marketing, upland agricultural technology, climate change, food safety and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

SOA is one of ATI’s distance learning extension modalities which presents a subject matter systematically arranged and in progressive manner through series of radio programs. Three (3) SOA will soon be on air this year. Aside from SOA on HVC, SOA on Livestock, “Radyo Eskwela sa Pag-aalaga ng Baboy”, will be aired on June 25, 2018, through 702 DZAS AM in Cavite province. While, SOA on Organic Agriculture (OA), “Usapang OA: Radyo Eskwela ukol sa IDOFS”, will be heard over Radyo Natin Laguna 106.3 starting July 11, 2018 in Laguna province.
