LOS BAŇOS, Laguna - Twenty seven participants composed of LGU executives and Department heads participated during the Preparatory Workshop on the Development of the Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) in support to Climate Resilient Agriculture Pilot Project held last May 16-18, 2018 at the City of Springs Hotel, Los Banos, Laguna.
The activity aimed to identify critical elements for exposure and sensitivity database as basis for analysis and served as inputs for the development of LCCAP.
The CRA pilot project is in Barangay Magsikap, General Nakar, Quezon Province. The pilot site is facing the challenges of climate change and its accompanying Hydromet hazards such as flooding, storm surge, rain-induced landslide and severe winds. Climate Change is a phenomenon beyond the control of any LGU, but it does not prevent the Municipality of General Nakar from planning better through local climate change action planning (LCCAP) to reduce possible negative impacts of Hydromet hazards to the municipality’s social, infrastructure, economic, environment and infrastructure development sectors. LCCAP is scientific and evidence-based planning that will bring to the fore decision areas and key issues and challenges in LGU program implementation because of the changing climate. Just recently, the Local Government Academy of the Department of Interior and Local Government came up with an enhanced guide to LCCAP formulation and General Nakar intends to follow this process, so it can be compliant to the requirements and mandates of law.
Mayor Eliseo Rozul Sr. emphasized the prioritization of the plan as this will be of significant contribution to the development of their municipality. The CRA project beneficiaries were also represented by SAMAKAPA President Rizalito Astrera and other officers. Ms Priscella Mejillano, En.P. served as facilitator for the workshop.
