Local Farmer Technicians (LFTs) in CaLaBaRZon capacitated on Basic Hybrid Rice Production Technology

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna- To equip and capacitate the LFTs of Region IV-A on the latest updates on rice technology, the Agricultural Training Institute Region IV-A in collaboration with Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Office Region IV-A spearheaded the Refresher Course on Rice Technology Updates and Hybrid Rice Production for Local Farmer Technicians (LFTs). The training was participated by 28 actively performing LFTs in Region IV-A last April 16 to 20, 2018.

Recognizing their importance in the implementation and success of the program, it is deemed necessary to provide continuous enhancement trainings in order to further strengthen and enhance their capabilities as partners in the delivery of rice extension services and technologies in their respective communities.

LFTs attended a five-day refresher course on various hybrid rice production technologies. The topics discussed include: Hybrid Rice Program in the Philippines, Basic Principle of Hybrid Rice, Principles & Management Practices in A x R / S x P and the Palaycheck System for Hybrid Rice Commercial Production. Hybrid Rice farming has been proven to be a successful technology for rice production, having contributed significantly towards raising rice productivity and farmers’ income, and providing more employment opportunities.

The participants were also able to learn topics on Philippine and Regional Rice Industry Situation, Department of Agriculture Road Map 2017-2022, Updates on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Philippine National Standard on GAP on Rice.
