General Nakar, Quezon – As part of the capacity building for a climate resilient agriculture community, the 30 beneficiaries of Climate Change Livelihood Project accomplished the 10-day intensive training on Climate Smart Farm Business School (CSFBS). The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) CaLaBaRZon through the assistance of Office of the Municipal Agriculture (OMA) – General Nakar and Infanta, Quezon facilitated the training.
Resource speakers from Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) – Quezon and OMA – General Nakar & Infanta were invited to impart their field of expertise on various topics. Mr. Sherwin Kenneth P. Deloraya and Mr. Alvin C. Ilagan of OPA – Quezon tackled PalayCheck and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Tools for Rice, respectively. Representatives from OMA – General Nakar and Infanta demonstrated production on native swine, vegetable and coffee. Moreover, Mr. Manuel R. Rutaquio, Jr. of OMA – Infanta focused his discussion on Crop Production Management, Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT), Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), Controlled Irrigation (CI), Rainwater Harvesting and Farming as a Business itself. From ATI CaLaBaRZon, Ms. Marian Lovella A. Parot explained Personal Entrepreneurial Competency (PEC), while Ms. Soledad E. Leal lectured on Farm Planning and Decision Making. The 30 beneficiaries were taught on the step-by-step procedure in making rain gage. They also experience market survey and benchmarking in Infanta Publlic Market as well as agromet data collection in PAGASA Infanta as part of their hands-on activity. Dr. Rolando V. Maningas, Climate Change Focal Person of ATI IV-A and In-Charge of Project, supervised the training duration. “Ang layunin ng programang ito ay hindi lamang importante na alam ninyo, naintindihan ninyo ang ginawa ninyo ang lahat ng kaalaman para tugunan sa pagsasaka ang pagbabago ng klima. Mainam lamang na sigurauhin natin na itong aating pinagkakakitaan ay maging kapaki-pakinabang at mas malaki ang maitutulong sa ating buhay at pamilya. Siguraduhin din natin na tama ang ating plano at mayroon tayong tinatarget na goal. Lahat po yan ay nakapaloob sa mga tinalakay natin dito sa ating sampung araw na pagsasama-sama sa CSFBS. Hindi lang bast magtanim. Siguraduhin natin na angkop ito sa pagbabago ng klima and at the same time ito ay kumikita para matugunan yung pangangailangan natin sa buhay,” as reiterated by Dr. Maningas.
The training on CSFBS transpired on September 3 – 12, 2017 in Brgy. Magsikap, General Nakar, Quezon. Training on Ubi, Cacao and Goat Production will be on October 9 – 11, 2017, still as part of capacity building activities towards a climate resiliency.
