BATANGAS CITY, Batangas - A total of 640 corn farmers graduate from ALA EH! MAISKWELAHAN: Isang Radyo Eskwela sa Batangas, a School-on-the-Air (SOA) program of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Region IV-A.
The ceremony dubbed as Maisaganang Pagtatapos held at Batangas Provincial Auditorium, Capitol Site, Batangas City recognized all the 640 graduates and different partner organizations and LGUs as they completed the SOA which ran from May 4 to September 3. Moreover, the top five students who excelled from each municipality were given special awards and tokens.
Among the guests was Engr. Pablito A. Balantac, Provincial Agriculturist of Batangas, who gave his opening remarks by congratulating and thanking everyone who has been part of the program. Dr. Rolando V. Maningas, on the other hand, concluded the SOA and gave a short presentation about ALA EH! MAISKWELAHAN.
With the aid of 95.9 Radyo Totoo Batangas, 24 lessons were able to reach the program’s students and impart knowledge about corn farming. The lessons started from the introduction of who ATI is and ended through the success stories of corn farmers. In between these are lessons on the technicalities of corn farming and different post-production activities.
“Dito po sa ating naganap na pag-aaral sa radyo ay isa pong malaking tulong sa aming magsasaka at lahat na po ngayon ay posible sa pag-aaral (The recently concluded school-on-the-air was a huge help to farmers like me given that everything is possible through education),” said Guen Ellen M. Riveral, a SOA graduate from Sto. Tomas, Batangas. She further discussed the highlights of her experience, among them is the lesson on record keeping which she claimed to be beneficial in tracking effective measures for a high corn yield. Aside from Riveral, two more graduates gave their testimonies during the graduation.
Ms. Marites Piamonte-Cosico, Center Director of ATI Region IV-A, ended the ceremony with a message to corn farmers to apply all the knowledge they learned and further share them to their fellow farmers. The ceremony was a success in partnership with Office of the Provincial Agriculturist - Batangas, Batangas State University, Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office IV-A, and Batangas local government units.
