TANZA, Cavite – The Army Reserve Command (ARESCOM) collaborated with ATI Calabarzon to train soldiers on mushroom production and beekeeping.

During the opening program of the two-day activity, ATI Calabarzon Center Director, Marites Piamonte lauded the initiative of ARESCOM.

“You are assigned to observe peace, order and ensure health protocols to decrease the spread of the virus. But today, you show strong support with the food security and food availability at the community level.”

Thirty (30) army reserve force officers were taught on the basics of beekeeping techniques including bee biology, management and hands-on activity by ATI’s Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) cooperator, Edelee Onoyon of Milea Bee Farm. Magsasaka Siyentista of GMA, Cavite, Geronimo Labao also shared his farm practices on mushroom production.

The knowledge and skills gained from the training will be helpful to the soldiers in maintaining the organic farming project they have established at Camp Riego de Dios, the national headquarters of ARESCOM in Tanza, Cavite. The farm was set up to productively use the land resources in the middle of the current public health crisis.

The training was conducted in partnership with ARESCOM through Col. Diosdado Peji, DA-Agricultural Project Coordinating Office headed by Mr. Felix Joselito Noceda and ATI CALABARZON. It was held last July 27-28, 2020.
