LOS BAŃOS, Laguna- As front liners in information dissemination in the grass root level, the Farmers’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center and identified Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) in CaLaBaRZon region were capacitated in Climate Information Systems.
The Agricultural Training Institute CaLaBaRZon-Region conducted a three-day Training Course on Climate Information Systems in Support to Techno Gabay Program Implementers for the Information Service Specialist (ISS) and 14 MS.
According to Mr. Jesus S. Eroles, Head of Laguna Climate Change Adaptation Office, the agriculture, forestry and other land use rank as second largest contributor of emission for a large bulk of Methane and Carbon Dioxide.
ATI IV-A Chief of Information Services Section, Dr. Rolando V. Manigas, PhD says that the CIS through the knowledge management (KM) and information communication technology (ICT) would complement the capability building and will strengthen the entire efforts of Climate Action.
As an output, the participants crafted strategies and plan for the implementation of CIS such as dissemination of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials on climate-related information and technology especially on climate change adaptation and risk management on their respective areas.
Experts from Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration and Weather Philippines were also invited as resource speakers.
Meanwhile, the 14 MS submitted a techno-demo plan as pilot site for Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA).
A total of 59 participants attended the said training, which was held on June 6-8, 2018 at Splash Mountain Resort and Hotel, Los Bańos, Laguna.
