Drip Irrigation Technology: Enhancing Productivity and Engaging Farmer in Sustainable Food Production

Virtual graduation of Training on Drip Irrigation Technology for Improved Crop Production held on April 23, 2021.

Modernization is one of the eight (8) paradigms to level up Agriculture espoused by the Department of Agriculture for a food-secure Philippines. To address the need of small farmers and urban gardeners alike for modern technology, MoCA Family Farm RLearning Center Inc., a Private Extension Service Provider (ESP) of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) CALABARZON, conducted the Training on Drip Irrigation Technology for Improved Crop Production. A total of 25 individuals participated in the online training.

The Training on Drip Irrigation Technology for Improved Crop Production aims to educate and train participants with basic knowledge in designing, installing, maintaining and scheduling a drip irrigation scheme to improve crop production for a more profitable and sustainable farm. Aside from lecture-discussion, participants also experienced face-to-face hands-on exercises following the health and safety protocols.

“I am very much happy that I have attended this well-structured workshop because it helped me a lot in understanding the importance, fundamentals, and the science behind drip irrigation technology. Not only that, but it gave me actionable insights that I can apply immediately”, impression shared by Mr. Deo M. Danguilan, one of the participants who successfully completed the training.

On the last day of the training, Ms. Marites Piamonte-Cosico, Center Director of ATI CALABARZON graced the virtual graduation. She emphasized the importance of being persistent, “Isa sa mga mahahalagang katangian ng isang Entrepreneur ay ang pagiging persistent o pagiging matiyaga at determinado. Isa ito sa pinakamahalagang life skill sa buhay ng tao. Patunay na nga kayong dalawampu’t limang mga kalahok na di natinag sa pagpapatuloy na matuto at makaambag sa pagpapaunlad ng agrikultura at seguridad ng pagkain”.

Each of the 25 participants received drip-irrigation materials which they can install in their own gardens or farms. The said training transpired on April 12 - 23, 2021.
