Livestock Extension Workers: Partners in Protecting the Livestock Industry

LIPA CITY, BATANGAS – This 2019 marks another joint training as Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Region IVA partners with the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IVA – Livestock Program for the Training on Proper Laboratory Sample Collection, Disease Prevention and Detection. Some 25 Livestock Extension Workers (LEWs) from the five provinces of Calabarzon attended the three-day training on April 10-12,2019 at DA-STIARC in this city.

With the lecture-discussion of Veterinarians of DA- Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL) headed by Dr. Gloria G. Salazar, the participants performed actual proper blood collection on chickens, swine, small and large ruminants and a guided necropsy on chicken. They also learned proper processing and filling up of forms for sample submission.

At the end of the training, Dir. Vilma M. Dimaculangan, Regional Livestock Coordinator of the Region emphasized the importance of being vigilant in protecting our livestock industry in the region by conducting animal surveillance in their respective jurisdictions. Adding to that, Dir. Dimaculangan ensured that hand in hand DA Regional Field Office (RFO) IVA, DA RADDL and DA ATI will exert its effort to further capacitate LEWs because they are the front liners of defense in the Local Government Units.
