FBS Training Teaches Entrepreneurship, Profitability of Farming

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite - Promoting the balance of farm productivity and profitability, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in CALABARZON in partnership with Villar SIPAG continues to advocate farming as a viable business by conducting its 13th batch of Training of Facilitators on Farm Business School (FBS).

This extension modality is designed to train leaders to conduct FBS (farmer-level) in their respective communities, and help farmers learn and improve their skills in entrepreneurship and farm business management. Topics discussed include starting the farm business school, understanding concepts on farm business profitability developing a business plan, basic taxation, and facilitation and presentation skills. It also introduces a market-oriented extension scheme at the farm level that enables engagement of farmers in developing their capacity for running profitable farm businesses.

23 participants from regions IV-A, IV-B and V successfully completed the 10-day training. One of the participants from Quezon province, Ms. Rowena Bautista shared what her training experiences during the closing program.

“Salamat sa ATI IV-A at Villar SIPAG sa kanilang adbokasiyang mapabuti ang quality of life ng mga magsasaka. As one of your scholars, I can proudly say, I am a farmer with the vision of becoming successful agripreneur.”

Villar SIPAG CEO and Chairman of Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, Senator Cynthia Villar congratulated the graduates through a video message. “Farm business management skills and knowledge are important for farmers to effectively respond to the present-day farming challenges. Now that you have finished the training, I hope that through each of you, more farmers will be capacitated in the business aspect of farming. Using the skills and knowledge that you’ve learn I hope that you reach out to more farmers to enable them to generate more income.”

As part of their action plans, participants are encouraged to conduct farmer-level FBS on their respective communities with support on a certified trainer from the local government unit.

This 10-day training was held on March 15-24, 2021 at the ATI RTC IV-A Training Hall, led by Project Officer Ms. Lizbeth David with Engr. John Mendoza & Renz Rocas from Career Development and Management Services (CDMS) Section and Mr. Ric Jason Arreza from Partnerships and Accreditation Services Section (PASS).
