Agri-based youth orgs urge to become AFYC volunteer-partners

Young people are among the key players in the A&F sector; however, their participation is declining and only a few of them are taking up agriculture courses in college.

BRGY. LOS ANGELES, Butuan City – Recognizing the vital role of youth in nation-building, the government is urging youth organizations engaged in agriculture and fisheries to become volunteer-partners under the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) through its Agricultural & Fishery Youthpreneur Council (AFYC).

Under AFYC, active participation of youth organizations in the consultative process and activities will be harnessed and in effect strengthen their vigor, enthusiasm, and innovativeness in shaping the agriculture and fishery development agenda.

Once these organizations will become part of AFYC, they are expected to commit to serve voluntarily and fully support all the DA and PCAF activities, programs and projects; participate actively in all activities of the AFYC; perform the roles and functions, duties, and responsibilities as defined in the PCAF’s Guidelines of Engagement on Agricultural & Fishery Youthpreneur Council (GEAFYC); exercise their rights and privileges in GEAFYC; attend orientations, seminars, conferences, and other capability building activities; and campaign for the recruitment of other youth groups/individual youths to join the AFYC and actively participate in its activities.

For interested organizations, they need to fill out and submit a membership information form, letter of authorized representative, list of officers and members of the organization, and membership agreement.

For further inquiries regarding this matter, they can contact Mary Jane Gonzaga, Rural-based Organizations (RBO) point person of ATI-RTC 13.
