DFP farmers maximize the use of smart phones

MANGATAREM, Pangasinan – Video-making is one of the skills taught during the Digital Farmers Program (DFP), conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center I (ATI-RTC I), the Probe Media Foundation, and PLDT-Subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc.

DFP aims to empower farmers and the youth in various mobile and digital technologies. On its first phase, the use of smartphone and its features, file sharing applications, social media platforms, search engines, ICT-related programs in agriculture, and internet safety are involved. Participants are also trained on basic phonetography and videography which are essential in coming-up with quality videos on ‘Kwentuhang Agri’.

Recently, a video from one of the graduates of DFP, Ms. Lea Santiago, Owner of Our Farm Republic (OFR) in Mangatarem Pangasinan, was featured on GMA TV 10 Dagupan’s Balitang Amianan. The regional television station requested OFR to submit a video on very easy to do healthy recipe. “Using our smart phone and the gadgets we won from DFP training, we were able to produce a video which we call ‘OFR's Tomato Herb Soup’. The video centered on an easy to prepare dish that is economical, delicious and very healthy as it’s loaded with vitamins & is known to boost our immune system. Something that we all need to fight this covid 19 virus,” Ms. Lea Santiago stated.

“Thanks to the training given by Ati Ilocos and Smart Digital Farmers Program. We were able to maximize the use of our smart phones,” Ms. Santiago added.
