ALCALA, Pangasinan—The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center I (ATI-RTC I) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office I, and the Department of Education-Division of Pangasinan II, conducted the School Children Field School (SCFS) Field Day last November 16, 2017 at Bersamin Agro-Industrial High School, Alcala, Pangasinan.
SCFS is a method wherein students enrich their knowledge and skills on sustainable vegetable production through actual demonstration in the learning field integrating biodiversity, climate change, and nutrition. Its goal is to alleviate hunger and to empower youth in the community.
Jessica Cabanilla, a grade 9-student and a participant of the SCFS, gave thanks to all the collaborating agencies, and to SCFS for choosing them as participants. She also said that they would share the knowledge they gained from the program. “Thank you for choosing us to be your participants. We learned a lot from you, we will surely share the knowledge with our co-students and family,” she said.
One of the highlights of the activity was the cook fest of the SCFS students, wherein they showcased their own recipe of eggplant. Another interesting feature of the activity was the exhibit where displayed all the things they learned from the program such as fermented plant juice, a panorama of biodiversity, and insects.
Some of the participants of the SCFS received an award for their outstanding work. AlemarrJun Hernando was awarded the Most Active Participant while Michael David Mendoza was given the Best Presenter Award. Three other participants got the highest ranking - Jessica Cabanilla, Top 1, Vena Rose Tadeo, Top 2, and Barbie Shane Chan, Top 3.
On behalf of ATI-RTC I Center Director Rogelio Evangelista, Information Service Section Chief Maricel Dacapias, delivered an inspiring message to the participants. She emphasized that the conclusion of SCFS is not the end, but just the beginning.
