PCA to Boost Pangasinan Coconut Industry

STA. BARBARA, Pangasinan - The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) launched the “Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita” in celebration of its 34th National Coconut Week at the Barangay Hall of Tebag East in Sta. Barbara last August 25, 2020. With the theme “Masaganang Niyugan, Tungo sa Kaginhawaan”, the activity aims to promote various coconut and agricultural products in the province.

PCA Regional Manager Dennis D. Andres said that their regional office will soon be transferred to Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan pursuant to PCA Corporate Order No. 02, series of 2020. In his message, Mr. Andres said that “Bakit kailangan pang manggaling sa karatig na lugar ang suplay ng niyog sa Pangasinan, kung pwede naman dito sa ating probinsiya”. PCA is eyeing the province to become self-sufficient in coconut being a coastal province which has the potential for coconut plantation.

PCA commits to focus its programs on strengthening the coconut industry in the province. It assured that identified coconut areas will be revitalized and will benefit every coconut farmer. Pangasinan is known for its local products like tupig, bokayo, and other native cakes and delicacies with coconut as one of the major ingredient.

In partnership with ATI-Region I, the celebration was attended by the Office of the Provincial Governor, represented by the Committee Chairman on Agriculture & Board Member, Hon. Liberato Villegas; Sta. Barbara’s Municipal Mayor Joel F. Delos Santos, Vice Mayor Emmanuel T. Cabangon, Municipal Agriculturist Manuel V. Velasco, and agricultural extension workers; and staff from various DA-attached agencies, and coconut farmers from Bolinao, Aguilar, and San Fabian, Pangasinan.
