TAYUG, Pangasinan – In its bid to reduce the risk of transmission of ASF in the region, ATI-RTC 1 in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Tayug, Pangasinan through the Municipal Agriculture Office, conducted the Advocacy on the Prevention and Control of African Swine Fever (ASF) on August 11, 2020. A total of 30 participants attended the activity which was divided into two (2) groups in observance of the minimum health protocols in the municipality. This was held at the Tayug Municipal Conference Hall.

The activity aims to educate the farmers on the prevention and control of ASF to minimize its spread in the region.

During the Opening Program, Tayug Mayor Carlos Trece R. Mapili said, “Pag nadapa tayo dahil sa mga alaga nating baboy, bumangon tayo sa pamamagitan pa rin ng mga baboy”. The Municipality of Tayug has no recorded cases of ASF. However, Dr. Arcely G. Robeniol, District VI Veterinarian closely monitors suspected ASF cases in the town. She said, “The absence of ASF vaccine or treatment of ASF, its spread can only be prevented by strict compliance to control measures”. Dr. Robeniol was the Resource Person during the one- day event.

Meanwhile, Ms. Shiela A. Sipisip-RTC 1 Livestock Focal Person emphasized on the Center’s continuing support especially during this times of pandemic. She said that native ducks are also potential source of income as substitute for hogs. “At present we are battling with this disease. Provision of pigs with no assurance of vaccine is tantamount to losses”, Ms. Sipisip said. She, however, conveyed the message of Dir. Rogelio C. Evangelista about the proposals for submission to ATI for possible funding particularly for farmers who were greatly affected with the pandemic.
