Writing Effectively: AEWs finish Training Course on Technical Writing

Dr. Gerry Abad, Assistant Professor IV of the Mariano Marcos State University, gives his comments and suggestions to the outputs of the participants of the Training Course on Technical Writing.

To enhance the skills of the Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) on preparing technical papers, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center 1 (ATI-RTC 1) conducted the Training Course on Technical Writing on July 18-20, 2022 via Zoom Meeting.

The three-day training was participated by 33 AEWs from the different Local Government Units (LGUs) in region 1 that aimed to provide them with skills needed in the preparation of technical papers and documents.

The participants learned how to pursue effective technical writing skills, understood the process of technical writing, and acknowledged social media as a powerful tool for communication. Specifically, they were taught on the basic technical aspects of grammar, such as subject-verb, enabling them to write technical papers more accurately.

Workshop sessions and practical exercises were included in the training to give participants the opportunities to put what they had learned during the lectures and discussions into practice. These outputs include business correspondence, technical report, news article, and social media post. Selected outputs were then thoroughly presented and simultaneously assessed by the resource speaker, Dr. Gerry D. Abad, Assistant Professor IV of the Mariano Marcos State University. Action plans were also prepared and submitted afterwards.

Mr. Caleb Galamgam from the Reotutar Institute of Science, Arts, and Trades Inc. expressed his take away from the training during the closing program. He mentioned that all the learnings he gained from the training will help him alot in performing his duties, particularly in making business correspondence, project proposals, and reports. “I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to refresh my technical writing and basic English language skills. I do a lot of paper work, especially proposals and letters, so this training was very helpful to me,” Mr. Galamgam said.

In order to achieve comprehensive change and inclusive growth in the agriculture and fisheries extension services in the countryside, the Agricultural Training Institute continues to empower AEWs with both technical and social competencies.
