Execution of ground breaking ceremony at DMMMSU DPERF
BACNOTAN, LA UNION – The Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center I facilitated the Ground Breaking Ceremony for Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) Swine Multiplier and Technology Demonstration Farm Project on July 22, 2021 at DMMMSU-DPERF, Bacnotan, La Union.
The ceremony was spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary, Dr. William D. Dar, together with DA-USEC for Livestock, Dr. William C. Medrano, DMMMSU University President, Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. and DA – Regional Field Office 1, Regional Executive Director, Dr. Nestor Domenden. The project aims to establish Swine Multiplier Farm to be sustainable and eligible source of quality hog breeders and semen that would be available to the local farmers. It will be a way to help hasten recovery and restoration of livelihoods affected by the pandemic and mainly the African Swine Fever.

Through ATI-RTC 1’s implementation with the initiative of the National Livestock Program, ten million pesos (Php 10,000,000) was awarded to the institution to be allocated in the components of Breeder Stocks, Feeds, Drugs and Biologics, AI Equipment and Infrastructures like Biosecurity Facilities, Repair of Farrowing, Nursery, Gestating, Breeding, Fattening/Growing House and Market Area. ATI-RTC 1 also facilitated in the conduct of the ground breaking through planning and preparation of the program. The said event was attended by Acting-Assistant Center Director, Dr. Maricel D. Dacapias, who gave her inspirational message to the program.

Despite of the ongoing pandemic and the negative impact of African Swine Fever to the swine industry, the Department of Agriculture through its agricultural projects and interventions ensure sustainable food and livelihood for the Filipinos in the years to come.
