Becoming More Gender Sensitive: ATI-RTC 1 undergoes Gender-based Staff Development Training

Women's contributions to our society and economy are now more apparent than ever. They are an inspiration to this generation since they can perform admirably in every role and piece of work that is assigned to them. Given this reality, the government is making constant efforts to expand women's opportunities and make strides toward flattening the curve between the proportion of men and women who receive interventions from government programs.

In reference to Section 27 of the Republic Act No. 8760, “All concerned government entities shall submit their GAD plan to the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW) for review. They shall likewise submit annual reports to Congress, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and NCRFW, indicating the accomplishments and amounts utilized to implement programs/projects activities addressing gender issues and women empowerment. The evaluation of agencies’ utilization of the GAD budget shall be performance-based.” In accordance with this law, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center 1 aspires to align this objective in favor of giving men and women equal opportunities.

Thus, to update the participants with knowledge concerning Gender and Development responsibilities and awareness towards the implementation of various Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) of the Center, ATI-RTC 1 staff undergone Gender-based Staff Development Training last May 30-June 1, 2022 at ATI-RTC 1, Tebag East, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan.

The training was participated by 27 female and 23 male staff of the center. They learned how to be more gender sensitive when selecting the target audience for each PPA and how to use the Harmonization Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) scoring when creating program and project proposals, training, and activity designs. Among the topics covered were:

a. Basic GAD concepts;
b. Gender Analysis and Gender Mainstreaming;
c. Orientation on HGDG;
d. Writing the Program/Project Proposal for each Functional Unit; and
e. Orientation on GAD Planning and Budgeting in Relation to the program/project proposals developed.

ATI-RTC 1 shall continue to facilitate the implementation of the gender mainstreaming efforts of the Department of Agriculture through the Gender and Development Plans and Programs.
