ATI-RTC 1 conducts GMP Training

BOLINAO, PANGASINAN – With the general aim to acquire knowledge and skills on meat processing, labelling, and marketing, the Agricultural Training Institute- Regional Training Center 1 conducted the Training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) on Meat Processing with African Swine Fever (ASF) Awareness at Rogate Oasis Organic Farm, Sampaloc, Bonilao, Pangasinan on June 16-18, 2021.

The seventeen (17) future meat processors finished the course with a package of knowledge on processing, labeling, marketing and awareness on how to prevent and control ASF. On the first day of the training, lectures on Meat Science, Selection of Quality Meat, Method of Preservation and Meat Processing were discussed by Prof. Jennifer Gangan of Pangasinan State University, San Carlos City Campus. Meanwhile, campaign to fight African Swine Fever (ASF) was delivered by Dra. Samantha Josephine Licudine, District Veterinarian of OPVet on the last day.

One of the highlights of the training is the hands-on activity wherein participants learned how to make processed-meat like embotido, longganisa, toccino, siomai and burger patty. All of them appreciated the procedures since they were easy to follow and the resources of ingredients were locally available.

“The training enables us to learn new things that we can use in our daily needs for the preparation of our family’s food and can be used for business/livelihood. I have a very good impression about the trainings because I understand very well the speaker’s discussions and the way they deliver the topics. I am very happy because I will be starting a new business which I can use all these meat processing procedures they taught us. I also obtained additional knowledge about AFS. We are requesting for more trainings to be granted to us for our livelihood. Thank you very much," testified by Ms. Lennet C. Garraez.

The training was led by Agriculturist I and project officer, Shiela Sipisip-Corpuz, supported by training management team members, Training Aide III Carla Telebrico and Training Aide IV Raecielle Joyce O. Calaoagan. The National Livestock Program of the Department of Agriculture will continue to embark on processing enterprises to improve and multiply the numbers of food processor in the country specifically in Region 1.
