There is Profit in Vegetable Processing

In episode 24 of our ‘AgriStoryahay sa ATI’ webinar series, food technologist Phoebe L. Galeon shared and showed us that when a vegetable is in season and in abundance, processing is a logical step to make such farm goods commercially viable.

When vegetables are at farm gate price and readily accessible, they are expected to be affordable. A surplus of it sometimes spells disaster for our farmer friends since some of them cannot keep up marketing and selling which a lot of their goods would end up as waste.

Farm Enthusiasts Learn Vegetable Production, Processing

DILIMAN, Quezon City - Farmers and farming enthusiasts revisited the basics of vegetable production and explored the benefits of processing them during the free seminar on organic vegetable production and processing.

More than 260 farm enthusiasts across the metro and nearby provinces joined the event spearheaded by the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI). Renato Dela Cruz, chief of the ATI’s Partnership and Accrediation Division, formally opened the event and emphasized the importance of organic farming especially to the youth.

Teachers Learn Organic Ways to Produce Veggies

CALOOCAN CITY, Metro Manila—Recognizing the role of teachers in developing a child’s skills and values, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) continues to partner with them to help ensure food security for the future generations.

The 100 teachers from Cielito Zamora Memorial School are now also among these partners as they took part in a knowledge-sharing activity on urban farming held by the ATI in the school. Here they found new ways of growing vegetables in the small space and with the materials have in their campus.

Urban Agri Seminar Goes to Valenzuela on DZMM Kapamilya Day

BIGNAY, Valenzuela City—Residents of Disiplina Village in Bignay, Valenzuela City were introduced to farming as one of Agricultural Training Institute’s (ATI) partner farmers gave a free lecture on urban agriculture during the DZMM Kapamilya Day.

Joel Frago, owner of the ATI Learning Site, Forest Wood Garden, shared his knowledge and experiences in terms of using small available spaces and recyclable containers they have at home to produce organically grown herbs and vegetables. He also discussed the steps in producing herbs and lettuce as well as the use of organic fertilizers.

Extension services continue to evolve. With the challenges that extension workers and farmers face, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) continues to explore various strategies to improve its efforts as the extension and training arm of the Department of Agriculture. In over 30 years, the ATI has celebrated various successes and learned from the lessons during hard times.
